Any reasonable person can train a spaniel. However, it takes a truly talented and skilled person to develop an English springer spaniel or English cocker spaniel and maintain a relationship with their spaniel. This relationship is developed through trust and your gun dog’s trust is not something you should take for granted. Our relationship with our spaniels is developed over time through a combination of exposure to game birds, properly teaching an expectation, repeating the lessons and maintaining a high standard.

The grouse, to the grouse hunter, is the very spirit of all the things around him – the breath of life in rocks and trees and fallen leaves, in fragrant bogs and mossy logs and mountain tops. I don’t know if the Lord made the grouse to fit the cover, or the cover to fit the grouse, but whichever it was, he must surely consider the result to be among his finest work.

At Craney Hill Gundogs, we highly value the opportunity to host our respected clients and their spaniels during the early weeks of October. These clients, who dedicate numerous hours each year to training their spaniels, journey far distances to Georgia or Michigan for specialized training sessions and also compete in the spaniel field trials. As the crisp autumn air sets in, our clients and their spaniels set off on a journey deep within the forest to flush out a grouse or woodcock.
