Todd had worked many dogs in the morning on Chukar, so there were birds all over the property. This was a great opportunity to run one of our younger dogs on the loose Chukar. This was an hour and a half walk with Ferg, he learned so many things in that walk. The video I believe is 9 mins long, I so enjoyed watching all the fun that Ferg was having this day I didn’t cut much. Sit back and enjoy the video.

Basic Gun Dog Development Camp
The objectives for our Basic Gun Dog Camp are to set a strong foundation for your dog, which includes proper introduction and exposure to birds, proper gun introduction, basic obedience. hunting in control and basic retrieving. This camp is focused on getting your puppy or young dog off to the right start before negative traits are established. This camp is generally available any time of the year, except October and November, and generally is for three months. At the end of camp, your dog will come when called or whistled, hup/sit when told by voice or whistle, be e-collar conditioned if you choose, hunt for birds within range and generally retrieve.

Well, it is that time of the year again when we start our conditioning program with all of the field trial dogs. Todd is up in the early morning hooking up all of the working spaniels. We only road/exercise the older dogs that are over 2 with the ATV. Here is a short video of the dogs working out.
So all of you dog owners this is a big hint hint to get your dogs in shape now before the hunting season and field trials start!
You can see an article that Todd wrote about conditioning here. Please take the time to read this.
One morning during our stay in Millbrook, Betsey took us to see a good friend of hers that trains border collies. Mich would be training her border collies this morning and she was kind enough to let us watch her, plus take photos/videos. Mich trials her dogs in the open events and she spends a lot of time training. As you can see there is more to this than just the dog or dogs, one needs land and sheep plus gear to take care of everything. This dog and handler work was amazing to watch. Everyone should take the time to watch this type of dog and handler work if you can.
Enjoy the video, turn up the volume and you can see more photos here.
Thank you Betsey for taking us over to watch Mich.
Thank you Mich for letting us spend time with you that fun morning.
Our new client Cheryl spent the weekend at Craney Hill Kennel for a consultation in dog training. Cheryl was put to work with our dogs in the field and in the training yard. Cheryl’s english cocker spaniel Gunner has been here for training so she was dying to see him. Todd put Cheryl and Gunner to work and they both did a really nice job working together as you can see in the video. They both progressed in their training during the weekend and we are looking forward to more training sessions with Cheryl and her crazy cocker Gunner. Enjoy the video and you can see more photos of their weekend here.
The dogs had a great time swimming in the cool NY water. The weather was simply wonderful for all the dogs. Thank you Betsey for taking us to this special spot so the dogs could swim and run free. Enjoy the video! The photos that were in the video can be seen here.
